S03E07: thoughts?

Garfield: guh
'Happily Ever After' screened on Australian television tonight. My thoughts are behind the cut.

Before I begin my hysterics, I just want to note that I love Jack Lothian's episodes and this was no exception to his typically kooky writing. He always writes bizarre happenings involving animals, has anyone noticed? The pig's anus, the stuffed dog, the squished dog, and of course the elimination of a rare species of bird. Nothing can top the misfortunes that the humans find themselves in, though.

I really thought that Martin and Louisa would marry. I also thought they were mismatched and would cause each other grief after marriage, but nevertheless I believed they would go through with it. Whichever way I looked at their relationship, though, it seemed doomed. Married life together would probably make them miserable, but breaking up after an engagement makes it even more unlikely that they'll be able to start again. That's the mark of great TV, I guess. It makes you ship something seemingly impossible!

Well, I'm still very much looking forward to S4 and I can't wait to find out what happens with Martin and Louisa. But I would really prefer it if there was some kind of resolution to their relationship by the end of S4. I'm not strong enough for a perpetual state of will they/won't they. Unless the writers want to add flogging a dead horse to Jack Lothian's list of animal abuses! ;)

Anyway, it's taken 3 seasons for Doc Martin to feature a comedy vicar, and I think they chose the right time to bring out the big guns. Vicars! Why are they always lampooned on telly, and why is it always SO HILARIOUS??

Any thoughts, or are we all unhappy about the ending?

I really wanted them to get married. I wanted season four to be the Martin and Lousia dealing with being married and maybe even having a family. I can you picture the Doctor as father later on in the series? lol I can. And well I do ship them to point, I think Lousia is type of girl Martin really needs, strong but emotional. She was the real for some of his growth. The 'will they/won't they' time is over, if they wanted to keep going with that they shouldn't have put married in there. There is a find line with "will they" "won
t they" from being interesting and being boring. the term behind the show have kept it interesting but maybe because they did finally change it with the marriage.

As far as the animal thing, lol I didn't notice that but it's true:D The stuffed dog thing still creeps me out and make me laugh at the same time. That and Aunty Joan's young lover sex scene will forever be burned into my brain and moments I couldn't stop laughing at.

I can't wait for the next season. I don't know when Canada will get it but I don't think they've even made it yet in Britain.

You're right about Louisa, and that's what I thought would be the thing to make their marriage work, if it did go ahead. The marriage would have been uncomfortable, but I was sure Martin would eventually get used to regular human contact, and he'd change (very, very slightly).

Well, the writers have a hard job topping S3, because I was thrilled with how far Martin and Louisa's relationship went. I was lamenting to a friend earlier that the characters I ship never get to the dating stage, because one of them's a priest, an alien, a figment of the other's imagination, etc. ;)

Exactly, I don't want Martin to change too much but the little he's changed already plus a little more would be great. Having to deal with another human being every day (and night) would be so funny to watch. Then later once he's use to that, add another little person in there. He's not too good with children so it'd be another laugh. Though I thought he did alright with that little boy who was simpler to him back in season one(?).

Agreed, really the show only gotten better the changes and places the characters have gone are all interesting and treat to watch. Well I do miss the old police officer but I'm sure I'll warm up to the new guy soon or later. In the final I liked him more then past episodes so I'm hopefully on him:) It'll be hard to top the ship like you said. So many ships of leads never get to the dating stage, they spend years paying back and forth till the ship is ruined (if the show goes on long enough). The show has handled it's self very well:D

btw I love your icon:D And I saw a very young Martin in Jeeves and Wooser(sp) with happy face and playful human personally if not a little rich boy dim wittiness:p .

I too was hoping that Martin and Louisa would get married and have a baby! I thought it was sweet when Martin agreed to be Louisa's friend's baby's godfather. And it was so tragic when Louisa said he didn't have to be, even though he didn't seem to mind.

Oh well. They can always have a kid out of wedlock. :D

That was one of the biggest signs that they weren't going to get to the altar, the misunderstanding about becoming godparents. By then I was getting pretty anxious, thinking, "It's a wedding, but why does everyone seem so depressed?"

I can't wait to get the DVD, so I can watch the second- and third-last episodes, which I loved.

Peter and few other character left, guess they wherejust finding their feet. Stilll I liked him.

I only saw half of it. But it was so funny. Did you see the one when Martin's character thought he was so clever because he had a flower that put water on people but he couldn't get it to work right and had to have a few tries. Martin can do some many different kinds of comdey as shown with these two shows:D

True, so true. I was desperate for them to marry and have kids, but they were very much mismatched. Besides, what if the kids looked like Martin? ;D
